Karla Estrada is the most recent celebrity to join the body positivity movement and she did so by showing everyone that she is confident in her own skin. Just recently, the talk show host caused quite a stir among netizens when she posted swimsuit photos of herself on Instagram.
In a recent episode of ABS-CBN’s “Magandang Buhay,” the celebrity mom said she uploaded her photos to encourage other plus-size women to embrace their bodies. According to her, Filipinas tend to be too conscious about their weight that they sometimes forget how they, too, have a right to enjoy the beach.
“Nilagay po ng Diyos ang karagatan na ‘yan para sa ating lahat ay ma-enjoy natin.”
The Kapamilya actress even quipped that being plus-sized is nothing to be ashamed of, especially since other people do not spend for the food that they (larger-sized women) enjoy eating.
“Sa mga kababayan natin, lalo na yung mga kababaihan, mga Pilipinang kababaihan, na huwag na kayong mahihiya… Magsuot kayo ng gusto niyo as long as kaya niyong dalhin at confident ka sa kasuotan mo at, siyempre, magsusuot ka ng naaayon lang kung nasa’n ka.”
During the show, Karla also proudly revealed that her swimsuit size is 2XL. According to her, the bikinis she wore were sponsored by a company from the United States, whose products are also being endorsed by famous plus-sized model Ashley Graham. The host said she willingly wore them and posted photos online to let other women know that swimsuits for women her size do exist, and that larger ladies should definitely not feel ashamed to wear them.
